Discussion Growth Kathmandu
Himalayan Java opened in 1999 as the first specialty coffee shop in Nepal and has grown from a single cafe into a coffee company that farms, roasts and franchises. Beans grown in the Nepali hills are roasted in-house and served across its own outlets and through franchise partners in Nepal and abroad, with an Express format built for fast service and a lower-cost franchise entry point. The business runs a barista coffee school and bakery training programme, sells beans, equipment and merchandise online, and publishes a loyalty app for regulars. Its own account frames the company around socially responsible entrepreneurship, with investment flowing back to growers as well as customers, and it positions Nepali coffee on the global specialty market rather than as a commodity export. Head office is at Tridevi Marg in Thamel, Kathmandu.
